<p> DIED. BERT YANCEY, 56, professional golfer; of a probable heart
attack; in Park City, Utah. Before manic depression destroyed
his career, Yancey was a top player who often contended for--but rarely captured--the nation's elite golfing championships.
The disease apparently first struck when he was a senior at
West Point; it took some 15 years before he was diagnosed properly
and treated with lithium. The drug controlled the illness but
gave Yancey hand tremors. Despite the loss of his mastery, he
continued to play, eventually gaining renown as a teaching pro.
